If you have a FRIEND that is in a crisis,
Ever witness a dangerous situation but feel like you can’t intervene because the situation doesn’t involve you? Depression, suicide and mental health issues affect everyone in a community, and you can play an important role in getting the victim to a safe mental place. Here are ways to help if you spot someone in trouble.
A community of support is necessary to help a person with a mental health related issue reach safety and peace. Even if you don’t know the person experiencing the issue, you have the ability to become a source of support. Carefully intervening can have a positive impact on someone in a crisis situation and may be the difference between safety and danger. Do your part and speak up either to the person themselves or by reporting the issue to us so that we can help.
If the situation could be dangerous, physically violent or seems like it might become so, use caution if getting involved. If you don’t feel safe to intervene, even standing nearby and making it clear that you are watching and are a witness to what is happening can help. If you’re concerned for the victim’s immediate safety, stay back and call 911.
